Method

From blank
table to whole
service in 4 acts.

A Sandbox session is structured but not scripted. The four-step method gives a team enough scaffolding to move quickly and enough freedom to discover what they did not know they were designing.

Step 01

Frame the place

Start with where the service lives — the room, the street, the home, the city. Lay down the spatial context cards.

Step 02

Cast the people

Who walks through this place? Build the personas, their devices, their appliances. Add the sensors that watch them.

Step 03

Compose the encounters

Plot the interfaces, the connectivity, and the interactions. Then layer in environmental, social, cultural, and legal encounters.

Step 04

Tell the story

Walk the experience hierarchy from the smallest tap up to the life around it. The service writes itself.

A workshop
runs about
